"The Album" is the debut album from Romantic Warrior, the Norwegian duo of producer and beatmaker Jøgge and rapper Phats.
Jøgge works with hardware samplers and a crate of vinyl. He lifts fragments from the forgotten corners of jazz and turns them into haunting loops and happy accidents.
Phats writes in a stream of consciousness with precise timing. A verse can move from the existential to the absurd, from heartbreak to pimp talk, from a strange observation to a punchline you did not see coming.
Romantic Warrior are not trying to recreate an era. They are interested in what happens when the past is chopped up and given a pulse.
For people who still listen closely to records, and who believe rap can still surprise.
