Mellow Drama

Nine chill beats. Rhodes chords, jazz chops, hip hop drums that sit back and nod rather than push. The melodies are given room to sit. Nothing here is in a hurry.

The brief Ferocious Folk set for himself was to keep it organic and atmospheric, mellow and harmonic, played and sampled rather than programmed. What came out is warm and a little urban, vintage in its textures, and set somewhere around early evening.

The title arrived late, and as a joke. We had been trading names back and forth, looking for something in the Blue Hour lineage (his previous EP on Purple Theory), and then Mellow Drama came back: a play on melodrama. It stuck because it was accurate. The tape is moody and chill at the same time, dramatic in feeling but never loud about it.
