"Off Grid" is the debut EP from Tribino, Petter Blom and m4artin, three young jazz musicians from Norway who grew up on hip hop and r&b and never really chose between them. Seven tracks, sixteen minutes. Flute, Rhodes, deep bass and drums that sit just behind the beat, played live and left a little loose on purpose.
The music moves between instrumental jazz beats, neo-soul and rap, with a few voices passing through along the way. Underneath it all runs a quiet thread of reassurance, brighter days ahead, people drifting apart and finding each other again. Nothing is overworked. You can hear the room and the hands behind every sound.
The title is the idea. Step away from the noise for a quarter of an hour and see what's left.
