Purple Theory Records is thrilled to present the debut album from rising Oslo-based artist and multi-instrumentalist Petter Blom. This album, titled "Unboxed", blurs the lines between jazz, hip-hop, and electronic music, creating a sound that's both fresh and familiar.
Born in 2003 and raised in Bergen, where creativity seems to seep from the very fjords, Petter Blom is a musical polymath. A multi-instrumentalist since childhood, Blom's fingers have danced across drum skins, piano keys, guitar frets, and bass strings, shaping his unique sonic perspective.
True to its name, "Unboxed" refuses to be contained by genre constraints. It's a musical Rubik's Cube that challenges listeners' expectations while remaining accessible and engaging. Blom's background as a drummer shines through in grooves that don't just move forward, but sideways and diagonally, creating a rhythmic landscape that's as unpredictable as it is captivating.
The album seamlessly blends organic instruments with electronic processing, creating a mixture of sound where analog warmth meets digital precision. This fusion results in a tension that's both familiar and excitingly new.
Inspired by producers like J Dilla, Pete Rock, and 9th Wonder, as well as jazz innovators such as Robert Glasper, Cisco Swank, and Moonchild, Blom has crafted an album that makes jazz more accessible. He achieves this by laying down solid grooves and memorable melodies as a foundation, using complex jazz harmonies more as texture than as the main focus.
"Unboxed" features a mix of vocal tracks and instrumental beats, showcasing Blom's collaborations with a variety of singers, rappers, and instrumentalists. Each track is a new adventure, inviting listeners to explore the boundaries of genre and taste - promising to be a journey through sound that will appeal to jazz heads, hip-hop enthusiasts, and electronic music fans alike.
